From September 21 to 22, Grandview Institution (GVI) successfully hosted the first “U.S.-China Strategic Security and Stability Dialogue (Track II)”. Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun and former U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security and the first female Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Rose Gottemoeller, along with Chinese experts such as Zhang Tuosheng, Chief Research Fellow and Director of the Northeast Asia Research Center at GVI, engaged in candid, practical, and in-depth discussions on a series of issues related to U.S.-China strategic security and stability. These topics included (1) responsible nuclear policies and strategies, (2) improving conflict resolution and crisis management, (3) strategic cooperation and new frontiers, (4) managing regional hotspots, (5) redefining U.S.-China strategic stability. Both sides acknowledged that while there are significant differences between the two countries in areas related to strategic security and stability, it is necessary to strengthen communication and cooperation on some pressing issues.
The meeting was chaired by Jonathan Powell, Founder and CEO of the British crisis mediation organization Inter Mediate. Natasha Groom, Senior Director of Inter Mediate, Julien Chatel, Program Development Officer of Inter Mediate, Huang Dizhong, Vice Chairman of the Pacific Exchange Foundation, Ren Libo, President of GVI, Zhu Junwei, Director of the U.S. Research Center at GVI, and Mao Jing, Director of International Cooperation at GVI, attended the dialogue.
