On the afternoon of April 1, following the conclusion of the one-and-a-half-day Track II Dialogue on China-India relations held in China at the invitation of Grandview Institution, the Indian delegation visited the Renewable Energy Committee of the China Energy Research Society, where they exchanged views with Lu Lisha, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, and Wang Weiquan, Deputy Secretary-General, on topics including the global energy transition, the large-scale development of renewable energy, technological innovation, and industrial cooperation.
Director Lu Lisha first introduced the background to the establishment of the Committee, its routine work, and its experience in international cooperation. She noted that the development of clean energy is an important measure for addressing climate change and safeguarding energy security, and an effective means of promoting high-quality global economic and social development. She added that China is in a leading position globally in the field of clean energy and has accumulated extensive experience. China is now sharing adaptable practical experience in light of the specific conditions of different countries in order to jointly address development challenges.
Deputy Secretary-General Wang Weiquan introduced some of China’s practical efforts in such areas as the intensive use of land for renewable energy projects and the recycling and reuse of decommissioned renewable energy power-generation equipment. The Indian side also shared its own positive domestic initiatives.
Both sides agreed that the large-scale and high-proportion development of renewable energy faces challenges including grid-connection bottlenecks, electricity market-oriented reform, investment and financing models, and full life-cycle sustainability, and that these require coordinated efforts across policy, industry, the market, technology, and scientific research. Both sides expressed the hope that deeper cooperation could be carried out in the future between governments and among civil organizations, so as to jointly promote the high-quality development of global renewable energy.
