Deputy Secretary-General Sun briefed the participants on the organization’s structure, founding background, core functions, and operational mechanisms. As the world’s first intergovernmental international organization dedicated exclusively to mediation, the IOMed will complement existing international litigation and arbitration bodies, address shortcomings in the current international dispute settlement system, and promote the resolution of international disputes through mediation.

Europe indeed has a long-standing tradition and well-established institutional framework in the field of peace mediation. At the national level, countries such as Finland, Sweden, and Norway have long been engaged in international conflict mediation, drawing on deeply rooted diplomatic traditions and extensive institutionalized experience. At the institutional level, Europe is home to several internationally influential dispute resolution bodies, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), founded in 1919; the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), established in 1990; and the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI), founded in 1996. Deputy Secretary-General Sun Jin noted that the IOMed could strengthen exchanges with the Europe in relevant fields, fostering mutual learning and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Anna Savolainen, Minister at the Embassy of Finland in China; Mao Jing, Director of the European Studies Center at the GVI; Ding Huizi from the Secretariat of the IOMed; Cai Jing, Director of the Department of External Cooperation at the GVI; and GVI Project Assistant Zhang Tingyu also attended the meeting.
