From September 20 to 21, 2025, the Grandview Institution convened a two-day closed-door roundtable on the “Prospects for Russia–Ukraine Peace.” The dialogue brought together former senior officials, diplomats, and scholars from Ukraine, Finland, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, as well as representatives from international mediation organizations and think tanks, for in-depth discussions with Chinese experts. The participants explored issues such as the prospects for a ceasefire, potential security guarantees, the impact of U.S. policy, the future of the European security architecture, and possible areas of consensus for China–Europe cooperation. The meeting was co-chaired by Ren Libo, President of Grandview Institution; Mao Jing, Director of the Center for European Studies; and Wu Hao, Director of the Center for Defense and Security Studies.
Since the outbreak of the Russia–Ukraine conflict, the Grandview Institution has closely followed the issue and maintained communication with stakeholders and international mediation organizations. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the Institution launched a research project titled “China’s Role and Contribution in Facilitating Russia–Ukraine Reconciliation.” The report evaluates the conflict from a Chinese perspective, analyzes China’s position and its underlying rationale, and explores possible future actions and contributions. It also offers recommendations for strengthening China–Europe cooperation in promoting a peaceful settlement of the Russia–Ukraine issue.
