The Second "Third-Country Forum on U.S.-China Relations" Held by GVI

2024.09.13

From September 5th to 7th, Grandview Institution successfully hosted the second "Third-Country Forum on U.S.-China Relations" in Tokyo, Japan. The choice of Tokyo as the venue for this year's forum was primarily due to the significant changes in recent years in Sino-Japanese relations, U.S.-Japan-South Korea relations, and the security situation in Northeast Asia, as well as their profound impact on U.S.-China relations and regional security stability.

The forum lasted for three days, with the first two days focusing on the relations among the U.S., China, and Japan as well as their competition and cooperation, and the third day dedicated to discussing U.S.-China relations. Experts from the U.S., China, and Japan delivered keynote speeches and engaged in free discussions on various topics, including: (1) how the tense security situation between the U.S. and China affects the potential for competition and cooperation among the U.S., China, and Japan; (2) U.S.-China relations and nuclear and strategic issues in Northeast Asia; (3) new challenges in bilateral and trilateral relations among the U.S., China, and Japan; (4) future outlook for 2024 and 2025; (5) conflict prevention and crisis management in East Asia; (6) conflict prevention and crisis management in global affairs; (7) opportunities for trilateral cooperation among the U.S., China, and Japan; and (8) the anxieties, mutual reactions, and the impact of securitization between the U.S. and China. The experts also provided constructive suggestions on how to strengthen trilateral cooperation among the U.S., China, and Japan, alleviate mutual anxieties, and promote bilateral cooperation. The discussions were candid, the atmosphere was lively yet pragmatic; relaxed yet rigorous.
