August 1 to 3, 2024, GVI and the Arsenault Family Foundation co-hosted the “China-US Women's High-end Dialogue: Peace and Security” in Yanqing District, Beijing. Twelve experts from China and the U.S. exchanged their views on the key aspects of the China-U.S. security relationship, China-U.S. economic competition and countermeasures, and women’s role in conflict resolution and military security from the perspectives of women's thinking and practice. Towards the end of the dialogue, they made several suggestions on how to take practical measures to boost the healthy development of China-US relations.
Experts from both countries were concerned about the future development of China-U.S. relations. They believed that, in view of the anxiety, misunderstanding, and mutual distrust between the two countries, the two sides should strengthen reciprocal understanding and trust based on the principle of mutual respect, and promote the healthy development of China-U.S. relations step by step with greater patience, sincerity and pragmatism through practical cooperation in specific areas and projects. Women should play a role that goes beyond their traditional auxiliary one and make the most of their wisdom and emotional intelligence by truly getting involved in this process.
In this event, the experts also had dialogues with six Chinese women entrepreneurs, enjoyed the Chinese tea ceremony, and experienced the “eight pieces of brocade” and other elements of Chinese culture during the breaks.
Li Xinyu, Vice Chairman of GVI, and Sahana Dharmapuri, Vice President of the Arsenault Family Foundation co-chaired the dialogue.
