On July 10, Huub Buise, Minister Counselor for Economy and Trade, and Mattia Bertolini, Second Secretary, Embassy of the Netherlands in China visited GVI, where they exchanged views with Chinese experts on China-EU economic relations, the current China economy, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The Dutch guests said that China, the second-largest economy in the world, and the Netherlands, China's second-largest trading partner within the EU, the two countries have close economic and trade ties. The Netherlands neither will nor has the will to decouple and break the chain with China.

It merely seeks to de-risk, trying to strike a balance between national security and economic interests. The outbreaks of COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict have awakened the Netherlands to the fact that only by minimizing its dependence on other countries can it maximize its own interests. Currently, nearly half of the Netherlands' electricity comes from renewable sources. It hopes to increase its ratio of renewable energy use, and to this end, it plans to halve its current carbon emissions by 2030. Given that China is far ahead in the renewable sector, the Netherlands hopes to double its cooperation with China to achieve mutual benefit and win-win.

The Chinese experts present in this meeting were Ren Libo, President and Founder of GVI, Teng Libing, Manager of Sinovel Wind Group Co., Ltd., Chen Yuanming, Partner of GVI and other GVI’s staff including Mao Jing, Director of the International Cooperation Department, Shi Xianze, Deputy Director of the Center for European Studies, and Yang Xiaotong, Head of Research of the International Cooperation Department.
