GVI and Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University Co-organize Youth Salon on US-China Relations

March 15th, GVI and Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University jointly organized a youth salon on US-China relations on the theme of "Building Cross-Cultural Communication Bridges and Injecting Youth Power into China-US Friendship". Chad Futrell, Assistant Dean of Schwarzman College, and more than 20 students from the United States, Italy, Ecuador, Chile, India, Nepal, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, Indonesia, and China, as well as professors from Renmin University of China, representatives of international students from Yenching Academy of Peking University, journalists from CCTV International Online and other media, and scholars from the think tanks, held a dialogue. Mr. Chad Futrell, Assistant Dean of Schwarzman College, and Mr. Ren Libo, President of GVI, delivered speeches for the meeting. He An, Secretary-General of GVI, and Yi Wushang, Researcher of GVI’s Center for Maritime Studies and Postdoctoral Fellow of Schwarzman College, co-hosted the event.

Student and faculty representatives of Schwarzman College exchange views with experts from GVI.



Liu Xiaobo, Director of the Center for Maritime Studies, Zhu Junwei, Director of the Center for American Studies, GVI, and Huang Aiping and Zhou Xun'an, student representatives of Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University, had an in-depth exchange of views on Sino-U.S. maritime competition and communication between youths of China and the U.S. Mr. Liu also informed the attendees of the results of GVI's recent research on and journeys to the U.S.


Mr. Chad Futrell and experts from GVI agreed that it is crucial to strengthen civil exchanges between youth from China and the U.S. as well as other countries, and that only through real interaction and learning to understand each other's cultures, histories, and values can we effectively promote mutual trust and cooperation among different civilizations. Today's world is not good enough, and whether the future will be better depends on today's young generation, who will be the shapers of the future.

Several international student representatives from Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman College, Peking University’s Yenching Academy, and other universities in Beijing also spoke vigorously. They believed that the Youth Salon on China-US Relations and the series of similar events on China-Japan, China-Korea, and China-Germany relations organized by the GVI provide a high-quality and high-end exchange platform for the distinguished young people of various countries, which coincides with the mission of Schwarzman College to cultivate young leaders of the future. They look forward to more cooperation and interaction between the two sides, which will help the young people all over the world to understand each other, broaden their horizons, and learn from each other so that they can work together to contribute to the well-being of all peoples on earth.
