On the 27th of May, Yuji Miyamoto, the former Japanese Ambassador to China paid a visit to the Grandview Institution (GVI), where he met with Ren Libo, the President of GVI, Zhang Tuosheng, the Director of the Academic Committee and the Director of the Northeast Asia Research Centre, Zhang Baijia, the former Deputy Director of the Central Party History Research Office and others, where they exchanged in-depth views on Sino-Japanese relations and other issues.
The experts believes that although Sino-Japanese relations have undergone serious setbacks due to various complicated issues such as Sino-US relations, the Diaoyu Islands, the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict, and the Covid-19 Pandemic, both China and Japan should attach great importance to the restoration of Sino-Japanese relations from a strategic perspective, and implement the consensus reached by the head of state last year, and actively restart the process of improving Sino-Japanese relations and establish a stable, constructive, mutually beneficial and win-win Sino-Japanese relations in line with the new era. Both sides suggested taking advantage of the 45th anniversary of the signing of the “Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship” to resume and strengthen non-governmental exchanges between China and Japan as soon as possible, promote high-level interaction and mutual visits between China and Japan, resume or establish various high-level dialogue mechanisms between China and Japan, and engage in more discussions about common interests, find more common grounds and put more plans into action.
The Japanese Minister-Counselor Ishitobi Takashi, Third Secretary Yamazaki Keigo, Secretary-General of the GVI, He An, the Director of Maritime Research Centre Liu Xiaobo, and the Director of Public Affairs Department Mao Jing attended the discussion.
