On July 14, a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, led by Mr. Kim Young-ho, Chair of the Education Committee of the National Assembly, visited the Grandview Institution. The delegation also included Mr. Lee In-young, former Minister of Unification and former Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, as well as Mr. Myung Sung-kyu, Chair of the National Assemblys Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

At Grandview Institution, the delegation was received by Dr. Zhang Tuosheng, Chief Research Fellow, Mr. Ren Libo, President, Mr. Han Yuanzheng, Deputy Secretary-General, and other representatives. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on major, sensitive, and urgent issues concerning the development of ChinaROK relations. The participating experts reached a consensus that both China and the Republic of Korea should reflect upon and draw lessons from a series of issues that have emerged in the course of bilateral relations, including how to properly balance the ROKU.S. alliance with ChinaROK ties, how to sustain and expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and how to pursue sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation amid increasing economic competition and decreasing complementarities.

Experts from the Korean side emphasized that ChinaROK relations are entering a critical juncture. They stressed the need to address existing challenges with determination and foresight, and to chart a new framework and new objectives for bilateral relations in the broader context of promoting peace and development in Asia and the world.
