Grandview Institution Successfully Organises the Second ‘Third Place Forum on US-China Relations’

2024.09.18

Grandview Institution successfully hosted the second "Third-Party Forum on China-U.S. Relations" in Tokyo, Japan, from September 5th to 7th. The selection of Tokyo as the venue was influenced by the security dynamics in Northeast Asia, recent significant shifts in China-Japan relations, and U.S.-Japan-South Korea relations. The regional stability and China-U.S. relations have been significantly affected by these changes.

The final day was reserved for U.S.-China relations. The following topics were the focus of keynote speeches and open discussions by experts from China, the U.S., and Japan: (1) the potential competition and cooperation between the three countries in the context of Northeast Asian nuclear and strategic issues, (2) U.S.-China relations, (3) new challenges in bilateral and trilateral relations among China, the U.S., and Japan, (4) outlooks for 2024 and 2025, (5) conflict prevention and crisis management in East Asia, (6) global conflict prevention and crisis management, (7) opportunities for trilateral cooperation among China, the U.S., and Japan, and (8) the anxieties, mutual responses, and expanding securitisation in U.S.-China relations and their effects. Experts provided constructive suggestions and candid exchanges regarding the enhancement of trilateral cooperation, the mitigation of tensions between the United States and China, and the promotion of bilateral collaboration. The discussions were distinguished by a relaxed, pragmatic, and lively yet rigorous environment.
