GVI and US Center for Naval Analyses (CNA) Hold Online Dialogue on Taiwan Issues

On January 26, GVI and the Center for Naval Analyses (CNA), USA, held an online dialogue on "Taiwan's Regional Election and the Opportunities and Challenges It Brings to U.S.-China Relations".

 

American experts present included David Finkelstein, CNA’s Vice President and Director of China and Indo-Pacific Security Affairs; Maryanne Kivlehan-Wise, CNA’s Deputy Director and Head of the Research Team; and Shelley Rigger, Professor of East Asian Politics at Davidson College. Experts of the Chinese side were Zhang Tousheng, Principal Researcher of the Academic Committee and Director of the Center for Northeast Asian Studies at GVI; Shen Dingli, Senior Researcher at GVI; and Weng Lvzhong (Taiwanese), Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science,  Sam Houston State University, USA. The meeting was co-moderated by Mr. Finkelstein and Mr. Zhu Junwei, Director of the Center for American Studies at GVI.

 

The online dialogue session centered on two topics: first, the impact of Taiwan's election results on the island's internal politics; and second, the opportunities and challenges that Taiwan's election results will bring to U.S.-China relations and the Taiwan Strait situation. The participants made in-depth analyses on the above topics and put forward suggestions for improving China-U.S. relations and stabilizing the situation in the Taiwan Strait.
